Pioneering Sustainable Campuses: TIES and Caritas Institutions Join Forces for Green Audit Initiative

In a significant stride toward environmental responsibility, the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences (TIES) organized an ISO-Based Green Audit Training Programme and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing at the Caritas College of Pharmacy and Caritas College of Nursing, Kottayam. This landmark event united the academic communities of both Colleges with a shared vision of building sustainable educational campuses.

The one day Internal Auditor workshop commenced with a prayer song and a warm welcome address delivered by Dr. Sajan Jose, Academic Director of Caritas College of Pharmacy. The event was officially inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Binu Kunnath, Director of Caritas Hospital and Group of Institutions.

During the opening remarks, speakers emphasized the vital role of environmental stewardship and sustainable development within educational settings.

Comprehensive ISO-Standard Training. Dr. Punnen Kurian led the core training, introducing the overall Green Audit process and underscoring the necessity of adopting sustainable practices aligned with ISO standards. The comprehensive training covered several critical audit components, including:

     Energy and Water Audits

     Waste Management System Audits

     Biodiversity Audits

     Occupational Health and Safety Management System Audits

     Carbon Foot print assessment

Participants received in-depth instruction on audit methodologies, proper data collection procedures as per relevant ISO protocols, documentation, and reporting systems.

From Theory to Practice Moving beyond the classroom, the program featured a hands-on mock audit and data collection exercise. Participants formed groups and conducted field-based audits across the campus. The groups later presented their practical observations and findings, resulting in a highly interactive session.

The event culminated in planning discussions for future Green Audit activities and the official signing of the MoU. This agreement solidifies the shared commitment of both TIES and the Caritas Institutions to foster a culture of environmental awareness and promote lasting sustainable campus practices.
