Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Thazhathangadi hosted the inaugural ceremony and student orientation programme for "Wings of Awareness" (Bird Watching), an inspiring nature education initiative implemented by the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences (TIES) and supported by the Buimerc India Foundation. The event commenced with a solemn prayer led by Harshan D. Nair, followed by the welcome address and formal inauguration delivered by Dr. Sujatha P., Principal of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kottayam. Dr. Abraham Samuel, President of TIES, introduced the core philosophy of the project, emphasizing how bird observation cultivates patience, focus, and a deeper respect for local biodiversity. An engaging orientation on avian species identification and ethical bird-watching practices was conducted by Mr. Sarath Babu, Nature Education Officer and Project Coordinator at TIES, while Ms. Arathi Sasidharan, Project Officer at TIES, introduced students to the CROW App for systematic recording and identification of species sightings. The session concluded with a vote of thanks presented by student representative Nidhi Ajay. As part of a larger district-wide effort across Kottayam engaging over 1,000 students and 60 teachers, the programme successfully empowered the young learners of Chinmaya Vidyalaya to step forward as thoughtful observers and future custodians of the natural world.
