2026-09-19

The Wings of Awareness programme, initiated by the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences (TIES) and conceived and supported by Buimerc India Foundation, is a nature-education initiative that introduces students to birds, bird watching, and the natural world.

An orientation workshop was conducted at Pallikoodam School, Kalathipady, Kottayam, with the participation of students and teachers Ms. Sheeba Paul, Ms. Nisha Mathew, and Mr. Subin Thomas. The session introduced the students to the objectives of the programme and the importance of observing and understanding birds and biodiversity.

Dr. Punnen Kurian, Director, TIES, led the introductory session and highlighted how bird watching can help develop observation skills, patience, attentiveness, and an appreciation for nature. Ms. Arathi Sasidharan, Project Officer, and Mr. Ajay Kumar, ornithologist, also interacted with the students and introduced them to the activities planned under the programme.

Ms. Sheeba Paul delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the TIES team and all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the orientation session.

The enthusiastic participation of the students marked an encouraging beginning to the Wings of Awareness journey at Pallikoodam School, inspiring them to observe, explore, and connect more closely with nature.
