Roots to Resilience: One Day Training on Sustainable Practices for the students of Marian College, Kuttikanam.

A one-day training program on sustainable practices was held for the students of Marian College, Kuttikanam. The training is based on the collaboration of TIES with Marian Center for Sustainable Development, Marian College, Kuttikanam, which aims to equip students and faculty with practical knowledge and skills to promote sustainability in their communities and daily lives.

The training program brought together enthusiastic undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Departments of Economics, Commerce, English and Physics, who actively engaged in a series of interactive sessions, field walks, and discussions led by TIES experts. Key topics covered included biodiversity conservation, eco-friendly architecture, waste management, water conservation, and administration. The sessions emphasized the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices to combat environmental challenges and ensure a greener future.

The highlight of the day was a practical demonstration of students' perspectives on the above topics and waste-to-resource initiatives, giving them firsthand experience in implementing sustainable solutions. Participants also had the opportunity to interact with subject matter experts, gaining insights into real-world applications of sustainability principles.

Dr. Punnen Kurian, Secretary, TIES, addressed the students and underscored the role of youth in driving positive environmental change. He highlighted the need for collaborative efforts to promote sustainability and foster a deeper connection with nature. The training also included field walks led by Mr. Sarath Babu N B and Ms. Anoopa Mathews from TIES, covering biodiversity conservation, eco-friendly architecture, waste management, and sustainable practices.

The program concluded with a feedback session where students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn and pledged to take actionable steps toward sustainability in their personal and academic environments.

The training was coordinated by Dr. T. V. Muralivallabhan, Director, Marian Institute of Management; Ms. Suzanna Oommen and Ms. Parvati S, Assistant Professors, Department of Economics; and Dr. Sheeja V. N., Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Marian College, Kuttikanam.
