Research Methodology Workshop at Bharata Mata College (Autonomous), Thrikkakara, Ernakulam

Bharata Mata College (Autonomous), Thrikkakara, in collaboration with the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences (TIES), organized a one-day workshop titled “From Idea to Project: Workshop on Research Methodology for Undergraduate Students.” Sponsored by the DBT-Star College Scheme of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, the programme was designed to strengthen research skills among undergraduate students. The programme was held at Seminar hall, Department of Social Work, at BMC, Thrikkakkara, Kochi.

The workshop focused on enhancing scientific aptitude and preparing students for their final-year projects through expert-led sessions on literature review writing, experimental design, data analysis, and research communication.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Soumya Thomas, Principal, Bharata Mata College (Autonomous), Thrikkakara. Training sessions were led by Dr. Punnen Kurian, Director of TIES, who conducted two technical sessions: “Student Projects & Research” and “Steps of a Student Project.” An engaging ice-breaking session was facilitated by Dr. Nelson P. Abraham, Vice President of TIES and an international trainer, followed by discussions of sample projects.

A total of 74 undergraduate students from III DC Zoology representing eight colleges—Bharata Mata College, St. Teresa’s College (Ernakulam), St. Albert’s College (Ernakulam), St. Peter’s College (Kolenchery), St. Xavier’s College (Aluva), Cochin College, Morning Star College (Angamaly), and Sacred Heart College (Thevara)—actively participated.

The programme was coordinated by Dr Sherin Antony, HoD, Dept. of Zoology; Dr. Simi Joseph, Dr Sonia John and Dr. Jithin Johnson, Assistant Professors in the Department of Zoology. Certificates of participation were distributed by Dr. Manesh Michael, Assistant Professor of Physics and DBT-Star College Scheme Coordinator.
