The Wings of Awareness programme—a nature-education initiative initiated by the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences (TIES) and conceived and supported by the Buimerc India Foundation—aims to introduce school students to birds, bird watching, and the beauty of the natural world.  

As part of this initiative, an orientation workshop was hosted at VJOM UP School, Puthupally. The event commenced with a warm welcome speech delivered by Smt. Raichel George, Headmistress.  

The program took place in the esteemed presence of Dr. Abraham Samuel, President, TIES. The inaugural address and project introduction were delivered by Dr. Punnen Kurian, Director/Secretary, TIES, who highlighted how bird watching fosters observation skills, patience, attentiveness, and a deeper appreciation for nature.  

The main interactive session was led by Mr. Sarath Babu, Nature Education Officer and Project Coordinator for Wings of Awareness, TIES. He introduced the students to the core objectives of the programme, emphasizing the importance of observing biodiversity and understanding bird life. During his session, Mr. Sarath Babu educated the students on bird ecology, avian physiology, the ecological importance of bird watching, and key traits of major local bird species.  

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Kumari Grace Manu Varghese, School Leader, who expressed gratitude to TIES and all dignitaries present for their guidance and support. The enthusiastic participation of the students marked a successful and inspiring beginning to their journey of exploring, observing, and connecting with nature.
