Today marked the commencement of the sixth batch of the TIES Junior Naturalist Certificate Course (JNC), inaugurated by Dr. A P Thomas, Patron of TIES and Director of ACESSD at Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. This course endeavors to ignite a fervent love for nature and life among children through structured nature studies. It equips them with a profound comprehension of natural resources and the essential knowledge required to safeguard them. The opening day commenced with engaging ice-breaking activities facilitated by Mr. Lal Varghese, National Trainer from Jaycees, followed by an afternoon session on Biodiversity Conservation, conducted by Dr. Punnen Kurian, Secretary, TIES. Over the course of fifteen days, concluding on May 13th, participants will delve into floral and faunal studies, embark on field walks at Wagamon hills, Vembanad lake side; conduct surveys; and partake in camping experiences at Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary.
