Mount Carmel HS hosted the launch ceremony and orientation session for "Wings of Awareness," an engaging environmental education project centered on bird watching, implemented by the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences (TIES) and supported by the Buimerc India Foundation. The event opened with a warm welcome speech delivered by Teacher Coordinator Elsamma A, after which Headmistress Sr. Jane A.S. delivered the presidential address and officially inaugurated the programme. Dr. Abraham Samuel, President of TIES, presented an overview of the initiative, highlighting how observing local avian life helps students build focus, patience, and a stronger connection to nature. An interactive session combining bird awareness, species identification techniques, and a practical demo of the CROW App was conducted by Ms. Arathi Sasidharan, Project Officer for Wings of Awareness at TIES, enabling participants to record their field sightings digitally. The gathering concluded with a vote of thanks expressed by Teacher Coordinator Siji Mathew, leaving the young learners motivated to explore and protect their surrounding environment.
