Butterfly Garden Inaugurated at DLSA Kottayam Campus: A Celebration of Nature, Law, and Community

2025-05-22

In a moment that beautifully united law, nature, and community, the Butterfly Garden at the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kottayam campus was formally inaugurated today on World Biodiversity Day by Shri M Manoj, Principal District & Sessions Judge and Chairman, DLSA Kottayam. The ceremony marked the official launch of this vibrant ecological space, thoughtfully created to promote ecological awareness and environmental stewardship within an urban legal precinct.

The Butterfly Garden is more than a green corner—it is a functional habitat created to attract and support butterflies and other pollinators, symbolizing harmony between biodiversity and human spaces. With native flowering plants, host vegetation for caterpillars, and interpretive signage, the garden doubles as a biodiversity hotspot and an open-air learning center.

The inaugural event was attended by a distinguished group of dignitaries, including Shri Arun Krishna R, Section Officer, DLSA; Shri Praveen Kumar G, Civil Judge (Senior Division) and Secretary, DLSA; Shri A Shahul Hameed IPS, District Police Chief; Shri Renjith D, Sub Collector, Kottayam; Shri K S Vinod Kumar, President, BAR Association, Kottayam; Shri Subhash K B, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Social Forestry Division, Kottayam; Smt. Reshmi Aysha, Director, KIMS Health, Nagercoil; Captain Ajitha Nair, CEO, KIMS Health, Kottayam; Shri Sandeep R S Pillai, LLB Student; Dr. Punnen Kurian, Secretary, TIES; and Jijomon P P, Graphic Designer, TIES.

The Butterfly Garden was developed through a joint initiative by DLSA Kottayam, the Social Forestry Division, and the CSR Wing of KIMS Healthcare, with a shared vision of integrating environmental values into civic and institutional spaces.

As visitors explored the newly opened garden, the air was filled not only with fluttering wings but also with ideas for future nature-based initiatives. The inauguration underscored the belief that public institutions can lead the way in ecological restoration—and that conservation can begin right in our backyards.

The Butterfly Garden at DLSA Kottayam now stands open to the public, welcoming visitors to pause, learn, and marvel at nature’s quiet yet powerful presence amidst the buzz of city life.
